Scuba diving in Goa is an excellent adventure that you must undertake if you are seeking thrill and action. It is different from normal diving as this involves use of proper equipment, so that it becomes easy to explore the underwater world. The most important element of this activity is its equipment, which is a scuba breathing set containing an oxygen tank and a tube, attached to a mouthpiece, which allows you to breathe properly.
Come face-to-face with colourful and diverse marine creatures of the sea and admire them up close with this activity. Before you attempt it, you will be trained by experienced divers, who will impart some basic, but important skills required to do it. Your Goa scuba diving training exercise will include familiarising with the equipment and making you comfortable in water.
1. How soon can I board a flight after a dive?
After a dive, you can only board a flight after 24 hours.
2. What does this expedition entails?
Before you do scuba diving in the sea, you will be trained by experts for an hour. It will start with a short briefing (theory) related to diving, after which you will be taken for a swim in a pool for you to familiarise with the conditions you will find underwater. Thereafter, lessons on basic skills to do this activity will be imparted. You will also get some time to get used to the diving gear.
After training, you will get the chance to scuba dive for the first time in your life. This will be quite an experience as salty seawater will lash your tongue while your eyes will feast on the beauty of marine plants and animals. During the expedition, you have nothing to worry about as an experienced diver will be supervising you. The timings of the scuba dive session are from 7.30 am to 3 pm.
3. Who can enrol for this activity?
Anyone who is physically fit and comfortable in the water and is above the age of 10 years can enrol for this exciting activity. However, before enrolment, all students are required to produce a PADI medical statement, stating any potential health risk that they may have. If the statement says that they do not have any health risks from being underwater, they are asked to sign the form of acceptance. In case, the statement mentions any health risks, a doctor certificate deeming that person fit will be required.
4. What does the programme qualify you to do?
Once you successfully complete this programme, you move a step up in the ladder of gaining the entry-level certification of PADI, required if you want to be a full diver.
5. What do I learn?
The courses offered by the diving professionals aim to first give you knowledge about the safety measures and hazards related to the activity. You will be first given a briefing about the same and then a video will be shown to you so that you get a better understanding.
Confined Water Training
After the briefing is done, you will be taken straight to the swimming pool for you to learn some basic skills, necessary while taking a plunge in the sea. Some of the techniques that you will learn are:
• Regulator Clearing: Sometimes while underwater, you may have to take your air regulator out of your mouth and put it back again. You will learn how to do it during the training.
• Mask Clearing: The Sea is full of weeds, soil particles and rocks. During this training, you will learn how to clear your mask if water or any of these things get inside and obstruct your view.
• Alternate Air Source Use: Sometimes underwater, emergencies can happen and they are mostly related to oxygen supply. In such a case, it is important for you to know how to share air generated from your gear with your partner or vice versa. This is one of the most important life-saving skills underwater that you will learn in this session.
Another aspect of this training is to make you comfortable underwater and teach you how to use your equipment. After this hugely informative exercise, you will be taken for a dip in the sea.
Open Water Dive
Open water dive means that you have successfully taken a dip in the vast sea in the presence of experienced supervisors. This also means that you have cleared the first level of your Open Water Course that certifies you to undertake scuba diving in Goa or any other place in the world as an experienced person. To become even better, you may avail the option that allows you to take multiple dives.
